Booking a flight to New York means choosing between three major airports: John F. Kennedy International (JFK), LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark Liberty International (EWR). Each has strengths, and the right one depends on where you are flying from and where you are staying.
JFK International (JFK) — the global gateway
Located in southeastern Queens, JFK handles most of New York’s long‑haul international flights and many premium transcontinental routes. If you are flying in from Europe, Asia or the Middle East, JFK is often the most convenient choice.
- Best for: international travel, premium cabins, Brooklyn and Long Island destinations.
- Getting to Manhattan: typically 45–75 minutes by car depending on traffic.
LaGuardia (LGA) — closest to Manhattan
LaGuardia sits in northern Queens and is the closest major airport to Midtown. It mainly serves domestic flights, and its rebuilt terminals have made it a far more pleasant airport than it was a decade ago.
- Best for: domestic business trips, Midtown and Upper East Side hotels, Westchester and the Bronx.
- Getting to Manhattan: often 25–45 minutes by car.
Newark Liberty (EWR) — the New Jersey option
Newark is in New Jersey but is a major hub for flights to and from New York, with a strong mix of domestic and international routes. It is especially convenient for the west side of Manhattan and for New Jersey destinations.
- Best for: New Jersey, Lower Manhattan, Hudson Yards and the West Side.
- Getting to Manhattan: usually 35–60 minutes by car through the Holland or Lincoln Tunnel.
What about private aviation?
Flying private? Teterboro (TEB) in New Jersey and Westchester County Airport (HPN) are the area’s busiest business‑aviation airports. We meet clients planeside at FBOs across the region.
Traffic is the real variable
Travel times in New York change by the hour. A weekday 5 p.m. departure from Midtown to JFK can take twice as long as the same trip at 10 a.m. When you book with Ride Luxury Car, your chauffeur plans the route around live traffic and your flight time — and our flight tracking means your pickup adjusts automatically when you land.
Our recommendation
Choose the airport that fits your flight first, then let a professional handle the ground transportation. We provide transfers to and from all three airports, plus Teterboro and HPN. See our New York City chauffeur service and airport transportation pages for details.
